Jackson Square Time Lapse for "The Baroness of New Orleans"
We've started shooting for our documentary "The Baroness of New Orleans: The Extraordinary Life and Jackson Square Legacy of Micaëla Pontalba." We'll be shooting some interviews next week, but a couple of days ago a small storm front rolled in bringing with it a parade of photogenic clouds, so I ran down to the French Quarter, set up the camera and stood around for a few hours while the clouds rolled by. After a crunched it down into a time lapse it was such a lovely little clip I thought I'd post it.
Big Chief Lionel Delpit of the Black Feather Mardi Gras Indians Memorial
Lionel Delpit, Big Chief of the Black Feather Mardi Gras Indians tribe, passed away last Thursday. The Big Chief's death deeply impacted the entire Mardi Gras Indian community in New Orleans. In a show of respect a grand procession of the city's most highly regarded Indians and Chiefs followed the Big Chief's horse-drawn hearse as it made it's way through the streets crowded with people from all areas of the city who had come to pay their final respects.

Great Old Footage of Mardi Gras in New Orleans - circa 1956
This Boing Boing video includes some wonderful movie footage and still photos from the Krewe of Mid-City and the Krewe of Venus in 1956. Mid-City was started in 1933 and run for the next 40 years by Charlie Bourgeois, my partner Jeanne's grandfather, so we particularly love watching this footage. The video also shows footage of the first Krewe of Venus parade which was the first all-women krewe.

Everybody sing "Iko..." - Fun at the Mardi Gras Indians' Super Sunday
The Mardi Gras Indians' Super Sunday was spectacular, as usual, but while we were waiting for the tribes to emerge we had fun asking folks if they could knew the words to the New Orleans classic song, "Iko Iko" or "Jockomo," as it is also known. Thanks to all the folks who tried, everyone gave it a great effort, but ultimately, it took a professional. The incredibly talented and famous singer Charmaine Neville was gracious enough to finally nail it for us.
There are more Super Sunday videos on the way soon. You can subscribe to this site through Google and they will send you an update when new videos are posted. No spam, no bs, just Google, the most trusted name on the Internet, sending you a quick email when we post new things. Now that's nice!

A dangerously witty, ribald walking parade that winds from the Marigny neighborhood to the French Quarter and back.
